Berlin If you ask Ekhard Popp what you need most in Germany as a country of immigration, the answer could be: a lot of patience. The 54-year-old is the managing director of Kidizeit GmbH from Hanover, which operates specialized children’s nursing services – with branches in Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Württemberg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Several hundred nursing professionals ensure that seriously ill children are cared for and that their parents and other family members can participate in life or go to work.

Because it is difficult to find staff for the strenuous job, Kidizeit turned to workers from abroad, for example from the Philippines, early on. But before the nurses who have already arrived can be deployed, the Lower Saxony authorities have to certify the equivalence of the training. In ten cases, Popp has been waiting for the applications to be processed since October 2021, and in 27 other cases since March of this year.
