Dusseldorf Apology yes, resignation no – but then the resignation: Communications experts are not surprised by the end of the term of office of Federal Minister for Family Affairs Anne Spiegel (Greens). “The bottom line is that she tried to create an element of authenticity that is otherwise more familiar from Robert Habeck or Annalena Baerbock – but that went completely wrong,” says Konrad Göke, editor-in-chief of the specialist magazine “politik&kommunikation”.
On Sunday evening, in an unusually personal press release, Spiegel described her four-week vacation in France shortly after the flood disaster in the summer of 2021 as a mistake and apologized for it. She justified her decision at the time as Rhineland-Palatinate Environment Minister with, among other things, the state of health of her husband, who suffered a stroke in March 2019.
