App Store, the platform on the Apple side of application distribution, is preparing to update prices in certain regions in order to adapt to the latest tax changes and to maintain price equality among stores. Increasing tax rates were reflected in the App Store as a hike!
As of today, many App Store users have received an email. In the content of the incoming e-mail, it was stated that updates will be made in App Store prices in the near future. Apple stated that it operates in 175 countries with 44 different currencies globally, but new tax regulations and fluctuations in exchange rates also affect App Store prices.
Apple stated that due to the fact that the pricing in each country and in the store should be equalized, the application and subscription fees on the App Store will be increased at certain rates. Regarding the issue, these hikes “On July 25, prices for apps and in-app purchases (excluding auto-renewable subscriptions) will be updated in stores in Egypt, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Turkey.” declared that it will be implemented.

In the continuation of the email, Apple explained the main reasons for the hikes to be made in Turkey, Egypt, Nigeria and Tanzania as follows:
- A value added tax (VAT) of 14% will be introduced in Egypt,
- A VAT of 18% and a digital services tax of 2% will be introduced in Tanzania,
- VAT rate in Turkey will be increased from 18% to 20%.
On July 25, transactions will continue at the new prices. So if you have any paid subscription or monthly app, you can already see the new pricing and cancel the app if it doesn’t fit your budget.
