Dusseldorf Many municipalities are now worried about the future of their Karstadt or Kaufhof branches. But in Halle the decision was made long ago, and the lease for the department store there expires at the end of January. High discounts accompanied the sale, even mannequins were sold for 25 euros.
Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof has once again fled under the protective umbrella. The management will use the bankruptcy proceedings to drastically reduce the branch network. While the Verdi union is announcing that it will fight for every branch, Galeria boss Miguel Müllenbach has already set guidelines: at least a third of the 131 stores must be closed. The company has not yet said what it will be.
Our research shows which locations are most at risk. For some, the decision has already been made that they have no future under the Galeria brand. And a whole bunch of houses have a good chance of being on the scrimmage list. Few are untouchable.
