Whether an investment is worthwhile and how it can be successful

Dusseldorf Never before have founders in Germany collected as much money as they did last year. According to the management consultancy Ernst & Young, investors invested almost 17.4 billion euros in German start-ups in 2021 – more than in the previous three years combined.

In the fight for the favor of start-ups, investors drive up valuations. With the euphoria, the fear of a speculative bubble is also growing. Some insiders even see parallels to the dot-com bubble of 2000. Back then, investors in technology and internet companies speculated massively. The consequences were stock market crashes and waves of bankruptcies among German start-ups.

How likely is it that the dot-com crash will repeat itself after more than two decades? Company editor Larissa Holzki classifies the situation. Financial editor Peter Köhler then weighs up the return potential and the risks of the market and names four ways in which private investors can invest in start-ups.
