Athens “It’s our lifelong dream,” says Marie Gruber as she opens the patio door and steps outside. The view goes over the silver-green shimmering treetops of an olive grove down to the glittering waters of the Saronic Gulf. Four months ago, the Viennese doctor couple signed the purchase contract for the villa on the Greek island of Aegina. The Grubers paid 489,000 euros for the 110 square meter property with a pool and a large plot of land.
Many foreigners are now doing what the two Austrians did and are buying houses in Greece. “The demand for holiday properties has increased significantly,” reports Georg Petras, Greece CEO of the real estate agency Engel & Völkers (E&V) in Athens.
