Berlin In corona research, retail is not rated as the primary source of infection. Researchers at the TU Berlin see the shops as less of a problem, since the risk here is lower than in other areas when wearing FFP-2 masks, at a distance, with good ventilation and a relatively short length of stay. “Infections in retail or public transport hardly play a role as long as well-fitting masks are worn there at all times,” the team led by modeler Kai Nagel told the Tagesspiegel.
In principle, the risk of infection in closed rooms without a mask is also greatest with the Omikron variant. Due to the higher infectiousness of Omikron, the risk increases there again, since one can become infected more easily with the same amount of aerosol in the room air. Therefore, FFP-2 mask, distance and ventilation are still strongly recommended here.
