Lufthansa wants to reactivate up to five double-deckers and use them at Munich Airport.

Lamps, trolleys, seats, even a bar and stairs – fans of the A380 can stock up on parts of the popular double-decker from October 13th to 15th. “Secure a piece of the legend,” Airbus advertises on its website for an auction, the proceeds of which will benefit the Airbus Foundation.

The auction is a symbol of a major failure in the aviation industry. Airbus invested around twelve billion euros in the development of the double-decker. In 2005 it took off on its maiden flight. But the giant aircraft with up to 800 seats did not live up to expectations. Even before the pandemic, airlines were returning their first jets. During the crisis, many then decided to end the A380. At the end of last year, Airbus handed over the last jet.
