Frankfurt The ad sounds tempting. It advertises an exclusive apartment in a very good location on Sylt. The 50 square meter domicile radiates harmony, modernity and comfort. However, the cosiness has its price: the seller is asking 850,000 euros for the apartment.

Despite the high prices, more and more Germans are flirting with a holiday property in their home country. But the demand clearly exceeds the supply of German holiday properties, as the market report by the major broker Engel & Völkers shows. It is available to the Handelsblatt in advance.

For their report, the experts looked at 39 locations in ten holiday regions in 2021: on the North Sea and Baltic Sea, in the Alps and in the Black Forest as well as on the largest lakes in the country. They evaluated which regions are considered particularly attractive and where comparatively relatively low prices are still attractive. They also provide an overview of the dynamics in the holiday resorts and give tips on what prospective buyers should look out for before making a purchase.
