When will interest rates fall again?

Frankfurt The world’s most important central bankers still don’t want to know anything about an end to interest rate hikes. Although the US Federal Reserve decided not to make another hike at the June meeting, its chairman Jerome Powell recently emphasized that he would “not take further hikes off the table” even in consecutive meetings. The latest minutes from the US monetary authorities also suggest this. “Almost all” members of the Monetary Policy Committee therefore expected further hikes this year.

The President of the European Central Bank (ECB), Christine Lagarde, sent similar signals. There is still a long way to go on the streamlining course, she said recently.

There is currently disagreement about the answer to the question of when the interest rate peak will be reached in the USA and also in Europe. Because the assessments of the top central bankers contradict the view on the markets.

Investors are betting on faster rate cuts, even if they have recently adjusted their expectations somewhat. Real estate buyers are also hoping for a trend reversal.
