Sinclair Lewis’ novel It Can’t Happen Here, first published in 1935, is again storming the bestseller lists – as it did in winter 2016/17, after Trump’s first election. The book’s antihero is a right-wing populist despised by the liberal establishment who conquers the White House with diatribes.
November 5, 2024 is already occupying political planning teams around the world. A third of US voters are still convinced that Trump’s 2020 election victory was “stolen”. At the same time, Joe Biden’s Democratic Party is in danger of dismantling itself; the president’s poll numbers are plummeting.
