Berlin The head of the Federal Network Agency, Klaus Müller, has triggered a debate about the savings efforts of private households with statements about a possible gas emergency. In an interview with the Handelsblatt, Müller complained that there had recently been more gas outflows from private consumers than had been hoped. In view of the warm temperature and the extremely high gas prices, he was “very surprised”.

The owners’ association Haus & Grund reacted with sharp criticism. Association President Kai Warnecke told the Handelsblatt that he found it “presumptuous” that the head of the regulatory authority felt he had to comment on the consumer behavior of the citizens. It is the task of the Federal Government, but also of the Federal Network Agency, to ensure sufficient energy at consumer-friendly prices. “With his statements, the head of the network agency obviously wants to distract from the fact that the federal government has failed,” said Warnecke.
