Berlin Federal Building Minister Klara Geywitz (SPD) has set aside 170 days to implement a central traffic light project: building in Germany should become faster, more effective and cheaper. Otherwise, the government’s promise to provide 400,000 new homes each year, including 100,000 social housing units, will be wasted.

In the meantime, the alliance for affordable housing from politics, business and civil society only has 50 days: On October 12, the Federal Chancellor wants to announce results.

The situation on the housing market is tense, and low earners are finding it increasingly difficult to find housing. The goals are shaky because the chaos surrounding KfW federal funding, supply chain problems and rising costs for materials and energy are slowing down construction.
