What crises and wars mean for the stock market

Frankfurt The prices on the stock exchange are currently on a rollercoaster ride due to the war in Ukraine. Historically, this is not unusual, one could almost say that the past few years, with their long periods of relative calm, have been the exception rather than the rule.

So far, hardly any expert dares to predict how things may continue at the moment. But according to a study by Deutsche Bank, a look at the history of past crises and their consequences for the stock markets provides some instructive information.

In most cases, the stocks have recovered quite quickly even after serious crises and wars – such as the building of the Berlin Wall or the Russian invasion of Afghanistan. However, there are exceptions to the rule that were serious.
