In terms of its features, Bayraktar Kalkan DİHA is among the most advanced in its class. This aircraft, which has 5 engines and propellers, can take off and land vertically, thanks to its 4 electric motors and its vertically positioned propellers. Then, with its internal combustion, low-consumption gasoline engine and propeller at the back, it flies horizontally like the UAVs we are used to.
In this way, it eliminates the need for long runways that UAVs need for take-off. It can be easily ventilated from warships without runways or from military bases and any location needed on the front.
Thanks to its 5 kg payload carrying capacity, this vehicle, which can be equipped with Electro-Optical (EO) and Infrared (IR) camera modules and has a Laser distance meter and marker, actually turns into a small-sized unarmed TB2.
Bayraktar Kalkan DİHA will primarily undertake reconnaissance and intelligence duties. The operational altitude ceiling is around 15 thousand feet / 4.5 km. It can stay in the air for approximately 12 hours. With payload, this period can be reduced to 7+ hours. It can transfer the data and images obtained during the flight to command centers within 150 km.
Bayraktar Kalkan DİHA, which can perform automatic route tracking, target tracking, circling and returning home modes, completed its flight test with the Baykar BG-160 camera, which was also originally developed by Baykar.
Thanks to the Baykar BG-160 Electro-Optical System, which has thermal imaging capability, it can also take high-resolution images at night. In this way, it can successfully perform reconnaissance, surveillance and target detection missions day and night.
