Cologne Readers of advertisements almost inevitably associate the paraphrase “dream house by the water” with images of the beach and glittering waves. But for the magic of your own jetty, even exclusive access to the water from your own property, you don’t need the sea. And these plots of land are not just on the North or Baltic Seas. With luck and capital, you can also get hold of a house or apartment with a view of the water on rivers and lakes.

The Federal Environment Agency counted more than 9,000 watercourses in Germany in 2015, and properties and properties on large rivers such as the Danube, Rhine and Elbe are particularly popular on the real estate market.
