Warranty conditions of technological products are changing!
The new warranty conditions for technological products in the EU require manufacturers to repair the products for 10 years from the date of purchase. This also means that devices or parts under warranty need to be repaired rather than replaced. Therefore, it will reduce the waste produced by faulty devices to the lowest level.
The main focus of the new application is that hardware/part manufacturers have to offer the right to repair within 10 years as long as customers demand, even if the warranty period has expired. We’re not only talking about home appliances here, but also other consumer electronics, including phones and tablets, and other products like cars.
The European Union is organizing its own chip law!
Just like the USA, now the European Union is developing a chip production law in order to be in a competitive position in the developing technology.
The related bill also calls for a “repair meeting platform” that will facilitate the work of consumers who want to have their products repaired. However, the Right to Repair (the name of the law) coalition sees this new proposal as a missed opportunity, as the new directive says it should demand a universal right to repair.
The biggest worry about the new bill is that it says nothing about the cost of repairs. This means that we can see price speculation in spare parts and repair costs, and accordingly, it may be cheaper to buy a new product instead of repairing it.
In this scenario, the bill is meaningless, as the device will be scrapped completely. However, over time, as the relevant bill becomes more detailed, such issues will take shape and a proposal will emerge that all countries will want to sign.
