Vitalik Buterin Proposes Solution for High Gas Fees on Ethereum Network

Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum To address ongoing high gas issues on its network, it introduced a major new proposal aimed at optimizing the network’s transaction calldata and gas usage.

This draft proposal, called EIP-7706, takes an innovative approach to transaction calldata management, introducing a new type of gas designed specifically for calldata transactions. This proposal aims to introduce a separate fee market for calldata transactions, along with a different base fee and per-block gas limits, theoretically significantly reducing the maximum calldata size in each block and making calldata more affordable on average.

Vitalik Buterin‘s motivation for developing this proposal stems from eliminating inefficiencies in the current gas model.

While Ethereum’s gas limit seems appropriate, concerns remain about managing increasing transaction volume without compromising block size, efficiency, and cost. EIP-7706 aims to alleviate these concerns by introducing a streamlined mechanism for calldata gas management, thereby optimizing block space and transaction costs.

Additionally, the proposal introduces a new transaction type that encompasses the base fee and the priority fee as a vector, thus enabling all three types of gas to be processed through the same code paths. This unified approach increases the overall efficiency and stability of the Ethereum (ETH) network by ensuring consistency between different types of gas.

This development comes on the heels of Buterin’s recent insights into multidimensional gas and his move to a more efficient transaction processing model.

The transition from a one-dimensional gas model to a multi-dimensional model is widely recognized as a significant advancement for Ethereum, and this transition promises to increase the network’s scalability, efficiency, and readiness for future demands.
