No, Hitzlsperger’s decision has matured in the last few weeks. Certainly one reason is that after the nasty dispute with Vogt at the turn of the year, the balance of power in the presidium and supervisory board has now turned in favor of Vogt.
► Will Sven Mislintat also skip?
Reassuring for all fans: the sports director does not make his future dependent on Hitzlsperger’s personality. For Mislintat’s whereabouts, the decisive factor is whether he will retain his great freedom of design and action in the future. It would be easiest if the board of directors promoted Mislintat to the new sports board. However, if the committee puts a new sports boss in front of him, it would be problematic. Clever: Mislintat has contractually agreed to have the last word on transfer issues. It is also fixed in the contract that his influence on sporting decisions will not wane if there is a new sporting board.
► Is Vogt friend Andreas Rettig coming?
The Viktoria Cologne boss and former manager (including from Augsburg and St. Pauli) is regarded as a confidante of Vogt. In January he worked alongside Helmut Schulte as a medidator in the dispute between Vogt and Hitzlsperger. In a BILD interview a few months ago, Vogt ruled out Rettig as a possible Hitzlsperger successor, saying: “These ambitions do not exist.” According to BILD information, nothing has changed.
