USA are becoming a hotspot for electric cars

New York, Vienna Robert J. Vail is a car dealer and he’s desperate. He runs the largest GMC Buick dealership network in southern upstate New York and is unable to fulfill his customers’ biggest wish: the GMC Hummer EV. “I’ve had it in the yard twice since the summer. Many colleagues don’t see one at all,” complains Vail. The electric version of the former military off-road vehicle has been available since the end of 2020.

GMC belongs to the traditional US manufacturer General Motors (GM). The Hummer is its largest pick-up and SUV, especially in the US a cult vehicle. The EV is the latest, all-electric variant. And GM can’t keep up with their production.

Now you can argue about the sustainability of a good four-tonne car colossus. But the high demand shows one thing above all: Americans have developed a taste for electronics.
