Munich. Avnet has been trading in electronics since 1921. In more than 100 years, the traditional American group has never spent so much money on expansion as it is currently doing in Germany. “Our business here is growing, Europe is our most successful region and Germany is the most important market,” CEO Phil Gallagher told Handelsblatt.
In January, construction work began on a €225 million Avnet logistics center in Saxony-Anhalt. The publicly traded company from Arizona plans to create 700 jobs at the A14/A36 interchange near Bernburg by the beginning of the next decade.
Avnet made a conscious decision in favor of Germany and against cheaper countries in Eastern Europe, emphasized Europe boss Slobodan Puljarevic. “We want a central location,” says the manager. What is particularly important to Puljarevic is the proximity to Leipzig Airport, which is crucial for quickly shipping the goods to large European markets.
