US corporations dominate more and more key industries

Dusseldorf The US technology groups continue to set standards: Apple, Microsoft and Alphabet should earn the equivalent of around 245 billion dollars net in 2022 – twice as much as all 40 Dax companies together.

But the United States of America is becoming increasingly popular across the board with highly profitable companies in many key sectors. Whether pharmaceuticals, industry, retail or IT: US companies generate the highest profits and have the best returns on sales.

This is shown by a Handelsblatt comparison of the 500 largest companies in terms of sales in Europe and the USA. With the equivalent of 1.6 trillion euros, the 500 largest US companies are likely to earn a good 60 percent more than the Europeans this year.

There are two reasons why the lead of US companies continues to grow: On the one hand, the long-standing lead of tech companies has a self-reinforcing effect. Because the USA has been a technological leader for so long, companies from other sectors are also benefiting from this. And US corporations are increasing their lead from crisis to crisis.
