Frankfurt, Berlin, Dusseldorf According to negotiating circles, the cornerstones of the rescue package for the ailing gas trader Uniper should be in place this week. Then there should be a fundamental decision as to whether the federal government will either join Uniper or whether the gas business will be spun off and handed over to the federal government, as several people familiar with the negotiations said. In addition, different options would be worked out, such as the amount of aid payments, depending on the amount of gas that still arrives from Russia.
The official maintenance period for the Nord Stream 1 pipeline finally ends on Thursday. The days that follow will show whether Russia will deliver gas again, only part of the agreed amount or nothing at all.
