Berlin, Dusseldorf The request from the federal government came as a surprise to the managers of the energy company Uniper: the company was invited to reconsider its plans for the construction of an LNG terminal, was the request from Berlin. This is reported to the Handelsblatt by people familiar with the processes. Uniper itself did not want to comment on this when asked.
The official move followed this Sunday: In his speech during a special session of the Bundestag, Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphasized that the Federal Republic needed its own liquefied natural gas capacities and announced the construction of two LNG terminals. He named Brunsbüttel and Wilhelmshaven as locations.
Wilhelmshaven is also the place where Uniper buried its plans for its own LNG terminal two years ago because the economic prospects were too bad. At the request of the Federal Chancellery, the energy company is now examining the construction of the terminal again, according to insiders.
