new York The war in Ukraine has been going on for almost a year – and the longtime US four-star general Wesley Clark believes that the western states, including Germany, are also responsible for it. The West was too “stingy” to give Ukraine the weapons it needs to defend and retake the territories illegally occupied by Russia.

The hesitant approach to tanks, fighter jets and other weapons is “a sign of the West’s indecision.” Russian President Vladimir Putin must be convinced that he cannot win the war.

In an interview with the Handelsblatt, the military strategist explains how the war could end this year and why Germany is so crucial for the outcome of the war. Clark also reflects on Germany’s role in NATO and shares a personal message to Chancellor Scholz.
