Dusseldorf, Brussels As of Wednesday morning, Ukraine stopped routing Russian gas through the Luhansk Oblast in the east of the country. This means that almost a third of the daily maximum quantities that can be transported to Europe via the Ukraine will no longer apply. This was announced by the Ukrainian gas network operator GTSOU. The company justified the failure with the fact that the Russian occupation made it impossible to control the relevant distribution stations and cited “force majeure”.

The Russian natural gas company Gazprom contradicted the allegations and stated that the Ukrainians had been working in Sochranivka “undisturbed” in the past few weeks. Ukraine now wants to try to divert the missing natural gas. This is technically not possible, said a Gazprom spokesman for the Russian news agency Interfax.
