Two major earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.7 and 7.6 on February 6, 2023 shocked the whole of Turkey. Unfortunately, we lost many of our citizens in Adana, Adıyaman, Diyarbakır, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye and Şanlıurfa.
Types of caravans that can be a short-term home for earthquake victims
While many people lost their lives after the earthquake, most of our citizens in the region were left homeless. Another shelter for earthquake survivors who were waiting for tents and containers was caravans. Some of our citizens whose houses were destroyed or damaged in the earthquake have started to search the caravans. We have also brought together caravan types according to needs.
Caravans, which are generally preferred for travel and camping, can be a home for earthquake victims in this process. There are many different caravans according to their types. Recently, derivatives called as trailers, motorhomes, converted campers, pick-up trailers and teardrop trailers have come to the fore.

AFAD, which makes the first interventions in the earthquake area, hosts many different vehicles according to the needs.
1. Caravan
Caravans are a type of caravan that can be travelled by being attached to the back of a motor vehicle. Caravans, which are larger than other caravans, usually have a toilet, shower and kitchen. With all these features, they can almost serve as a home. It is also worth mentioning that these vehicles, which can be single-axle or double-axle depending on their size, have limited maneuverability. Therefore, they can be quite difficult to control.
2. Teardrop Caravan
Teardrop caravans, a type of travel trailer, are distinguished by their size. Unfortunately, there are no showers and toilets in these vehicles, which can also be towed by vehicles with low engine capacity due to their small size. Teardrop caravans, which are usually designed to accommodate two people, have a kitchen area on the outside. These caravans offer easier handling thanks to their compact size.
3. Motorhome
In motorhomes, the caravan and its motor vehicle are a whole. The most advantageous aspect of motorhomes is that they do not need another vehicle. On the other hand, these caravans usually have a toilet, shower and kitchen. This provides great convenience to its users. Let us remind you that a class A license is required to use motorhomes, which are much easier to use than trailers.
4. Camper (Converted)
Converted caravan models are usually introduced by changing vehicles such as panel vans or minibuses according to needs. These caravans can be quite luxurious according to the preferences of the users, or they can be designed only for basic needs. These caravans, which are advantageous in that they move without the need for another vehicle, on the other hand, cannot offer as much space as motorhomes.
5. Pick-up caravan
Pick-up caravans, which have become popular especially recently, consist of a section placed behind suitable pick-up models. These vehicles, which can be very useful with their dimensions, usually have a sleeping area for several people. Unfortunately, there are no showers and toilets inside the caravans, where the kitchen section is outside. However, with its removable structure, these caravans can be very useful for short periods for temporary solutions.
