Space is an infinite void and we only control a small part of it. Especially celestial bodies outside our own galaxy are a big unknown for us. While we continue to explore these unknowns, our search for planets that can be an alternative to our world continues.
Research begins for two planets thought to be habitable
Continuing this kind of research, NASA has also established a department to research planets outside our galaxy. NASA’s exoplanet division continues its studies for other planets similar to our earth. Professor Amary Triaud, who is researching on the subject, announced that two planets with a temperate climate have been detected, together with a team of international astronomers.

Located about 100 light-years from Earth, this planetary pair orbits a star called Speculoos-2. This star takes its name from the telescope called Search for Habitable Planets Eclipsing Ultra-cool Stars. This telescope is used to search for habitable zones in distant stars.
Researchers state that one of the discovered planets was previously captured by NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite. However, Speculoos had to step in before scientists came to the conclusion that this celestial body was a planet.
After some analysis, the researchers determined that the world, called LP 890-9b, is about 30 percent larger than Earth and completes its orbit around its star every 2.7 days. It is worth saying that the planet is quite fast.
The other planet, named LP 890-9c, is a little more mysterious. This previously unknown planet was determined to be about 40 percent larger than Earth after some tests and data tracking. LP 890-9c completes its orbital period in about 8.5 days.
Research will be deepened
Researchers think both planets are habitable. Stating that the star around which the planets revolve is neither too hot nor too cold, the researchers state that this is very important for water, which is the biggest source of life.
NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope seems to turn its eyes to these two planets after the developments. The most powerful telescope ever built will seek the answer to the most curious question ever. Are we alone in the universe?
