Two Colliding Galaxies Observed!

The James Webb Space Telescope enabled the observation of two galaxies colliding with each other this time. The same structure was previously observed with Hubble.

Launched into space in December 2021 James Webb Space Telescope, has managed to see the depths of space with a clarity we have not seen before. The telescope, which has made dozens of observations possible since the beginning of summer, has again made an eye-catching observation today.

In the observation shared by the European Space Agency, James Webb observed two galaxies colliding with each other this time. This colliding duo, identified as ‘IC 1623’, 270 million light years from Earth exists.

The two galaxies we see above have long been one of the main focuses of astronomers’ research. The two galaxies were previously imaged with the Hubble Space Telescope as follows:

According to the details shared by NASA, the collision of these two galaxies with each other is greater than the number of all stars in the Milky Way Galaxy. 20 times more stars to form it causes. The new observation could offer new insights into scientists’ research about this structure and how stars form.
