The US tech giants are in turmoil.

san francisco Brian has had many good years in Silicon Valley. He was one of the very first employees on Twitter. He moved from one tech company to the next. His salary is in the mid six-figure range. He was asked. But then came the dismissal.

“It has probably never been so difficult to find a new job in Silicon Valley as it is today,” says Brian, who does not want to publicly reveal his full name and that of his last employer. “Tech companies have had a great time over the past two decades. It changes. The party is over.”

Twitter, Meta, Salesforce, Doordash: In the past few weeks, the large technology companies from Silicon Valley have regularly announced mass layoffs. According to calculations by the investment bank Bernstein, around 53,000 jobs were lost in the US technology sector in November alone.
