San Francisco / New York According to Handelsblatt information, Twitter has dissolved an advisory body, the so-called Trust and Safety Council. The advisory board, which was set up in 2016 and consists of independent expert groups, advised the social media platform, which has since been taken over by tech billionaire Elon Musk, on sensitive content-related issues. For example, on the topics of hate speech, child exploitation, suicide, self-harm and other problems in the network.

The committee was supposed to meet with company representatives on Tuesday night. Almost 100 civil and human rights groups were represented in it. According to several members who wanted to remain anonymous, Twitter informed them about the dissolution in an email shortly before the planned meeting.

Accordingly, Twitter should become a “safe and informative place”, “faster and more aggressive than ever before”. It is currently being examined how the short message service can best incorporate external knowledge into the product and policy development of the platform. It would have shown that the Trust and Safety Council “is not the best construct for the task”. However, the company will continue to listen to the groups’ ideas on how to achieve the goal.

An explanation page for the committee on Twitter was no longer filled on Tuesday. “There’s (sic!) nothing to see here,” it said.
