Türkiye has advanced in battery technologies and production!

The evolution of lithium-ion-based battery technology since the 90s has found a firm place in a wide range of sectors, led by electric vehicles. This technology has mobilized a number of products and made our daily lives easier through mobile devices. However, until last year, our country lagged behind in battery cell production and was completely dependent on foreign sources in this field; We were only able to produce battery packs.

With Aspilsan stepping into battery cell production and the establishment of the Battery Manufacturers and Suppliers Association (PİLDER), our country’s development potential in this field has increased. PİLDER, which has been operational since April 2023, has reached 16 members from 7 founding members in just six months.

Türkiye has advanced in battery technologies and production!

Our Minister of Industry and Technology, Mr. Mehmet Fatih Kaçır, definitely supports our country becoming an international center for battery technology and the increase in the number of companies developing battery production and technologies. Mr. Kaçır’s vision and support on this issue enable the acceleration of initiative and innovation in battery and battery technology in our country.

PİLDER President Kadem Usta said the following on the subject:

“Our goal is to bring together all stakeholders in the sector under the umbrella of PiLDER, including the cell and battery manufacturers in our country, as well as companies producing battery management systems, electronic materials and software.

We are organizing the Battery Technologies Summit in order to showcase our capabilities and capacity in both domestic and international markets, especially in Europe. This event will not only showcase our country’s capacity in battery technology, but also strengthen our international connections by increasing cooperation opportunities with foreign participants and industry representatives.

With two active cell factories, four new facilities in the investment phase and more than 25 small-large scale battery production facilities, Turkey is on its way to reach 4 GWh production in 2025. It is predicted that the sector will progress healthily towards the 70 GWh production target by 2030, with government incentives.

We would like to remind you again that; Battery Technologies Summit will be held on 22-23 November 2023 at the technology center Bilisim Vadisi in Gebze. This summit will be a turning point for the industry and we call on all relevant stakeholders to come together at this critical event.
