Statistics of the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ) for March and THY’s data for 2024 reveal that Turkey has come a long way in the aviation sector. Let’s take a look at the details together.

According to the statements of Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, 14.6 million passengers preferred air transportation in March and approximately 44 million passengers in the first quarter of the year. Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that this increase is an indicator of investments in technology and confidence in the sector.

There was a significant increase in the number of planes taking off and landing on domestic and international lines in March. There was 67 thousand 539 aircraft traffic on domestic lines and 54 thousand 922 aircraft traffic on international lines. Total flight traffic reached 165 thousand 329, including overpasses.

Passenger traffic at airports was also remarkable in March. Domestic passenger traffic reached 6 million 587 thousand 526, and international passenger traffic reached 7 million 992 thousand 360. In total, 14 million 608 thousand 213 passengers were served. These figures correspond to a 3.8 percent increase in domestic passenger traffic and an 11.4 percent increase in international passenger traffic compared to the same period in 2023.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced the progress Turkey has made in the electronic communications sector.

It is also stated that there has been a significant increase in freight traffic. In March, 58 thousand 801 tons of cargo were transported on domestic lines and 279 thousand 612 tons on international lines. Significant figures were also reached at Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gökçen Airport. It was announced that a total of 5 million 895 thousand 146 passengers were served at Istanbul Airport, while 3 million 97 thousand 705 passengers passed through Sabiha Gökçen Airport.

There was a 0.5 percent increase in the number of passengers carried in March compared to the same period last year, and a total of 6.14 million passengers were carried. The number of aircraft in THY’s fleet reached 453. While there was a 3 percent increase in the number of international-to-international transfer passengers in the March period, a slight decrease was recorded in the passenger occupancy rate.
