Turkey’s First Space Passengers Introduced at TEKNOFEST

President Erdoğan announced Turkey’s passengers going to space at TEKNOFEST held at Atatürk Airport.

TEKNOFEST, Turkey’s biggest event in the field of technology and science, is being held between April 29 and May 2 this year. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a speech at today’s event of Teknofest.

Referring to Turkey’s space travel program in his speech, Erdoğan announced that Turkey’s first passengers to go to space have been determined. Erdogan, “We have identified two space passengers, one original and one spare. I congratulate our friends who have been awarded the right to become space passengers” said.

Who are the space travelers who will stay in space for 14 days?

It has been announced that Turkey’s space travelers are Alper Gezer Avcı and Cihangir Atasever. Alper Gezer Avcı, a successful Air Force officer an F-16 pilotand Cihangir Atasever Worked at Roketsan a systems engineer. Space travelers on the International Space Station 14 days stay and 13 different experiments were announced.

Turkey announced the National Space Program prepared by the Turkish Space Agency on February 9, 2021. Among the 10 strategic goals of the program are soft landing on the Moon, developing domestic and national satellites and sending people into space.
