The budgets allocated for aviation and space activities in our country are greatly increased. According to the news of Cumhuriyet, a law proposal has been submitted for the 2023 budget of the Turkish Space Agency.
Established in 2018, the Turkish Space Agency (TUA) carries out its activities under the Ministry of Industry and Technology. TUA, which has an independent budget from the Ministry, came up with a new budget proposal.
Turkish Space Agency budget will increase by 2,500 times in 2023
TUA President Serdar Hüseyin Yıldırım conveyed information about the selection of the first Turkish astronaut from the journey to the surface of the Moon at a meeting he attended in April 2022. Stating that a Turkish astronaut will be sent to space for the first time in the first half of 2023, Yıldırım underlined that the design of the spacecraft to be used will also be domestic.
A total of 2 astronauts, 1 main and 1 reserve, will be selected to serve on the TUA Moon mission. In the statements he made in the past weeks, Yıldırım stated that they are approaching the end of the astronaut elections.

The TUA budget, which was 61 million 293 thousand TL in 2022, was determined as 1 billion 618 million 2 thousand TL in the draft law. With the budget increased by approximately 2,500 times, the Moon mission will be carried out next year.
The details of the proposal for the TUA budget are as follows:
- TUA Presidency was established to regulate, direct and develop Turkey’s activities in the field of space. TUA, which fulfills the duties defined for it in the field of space and aviation science and technologies in accordance with the Presidential Decree No. 23, has exported R&D and innovation activities to support high value-added products and services within the scope of the “Development of Science, Technology and Applications in the Field of Space and Aviation” sub-program. It aims to reduce addiction. However, thanks to TUA, every effort will be made to increase competitiveness in the international arena, and contribute to our national interests and the welfare of the society.
- With the aim of increasing competitiveness in the aerospace industry and expanding the use of space and aviation technologies, TUA Presidency manages space operations for commercial, scientific and research and development purposes, as well as manned or unmanned space access and space exploration missions.
- The TUA budget should be reorganized in order to develop scientific and technological infrastructures and human resources in the field of space and aviation technologies, and to increase capacity and capabilities. With the renewed budget, activities will be carried out for purposes such as carrying out space activities without being dependent on foreign sources and acquiring facilities and technologies.
