Tumblr will not take commissions from the tip feature
Thanks to this new feature brought by Tumblr, when users tip a creator, they will be able to write their notes in a box. It is also stated that promoters can send up to $100 at a time.
The platform says that it will not receive any commission from donations made. However, since the Tumblr tip feature can be used via credit or debit cards, the intermediary fee to the banks will be deducted from here. This may vary by country and institution.
Tumblr has actually taken a step before bloggers can make money. The platform had enabled users to charge a monthly fee for accessing private posts, thanks to a feature called Post+, which it introduced in the past months. The tip jar will also be one of the innovations that supports this.
While some users are concerned about the legality of Tumblr encouraging bloggers to monetize their readers, others say the beta version of Post+ does not allow creators to block users who subscribe to them, creating a potential security issue.
In fact, after a blogger who helped test the Post+ feature was targeted with multiple insults and death threats by users who disliked the platform’s innovation, Tumblr intervened and denounced the attacks.
