Berlin, Munich, Tokyo The plans of the Taiwanese group TSMC for a plant in Germany are becoming more concrete. According to information from government circles in the Handelsblatt, the chip manufacturer is planning a joint venture with Bosch and the microelectronics companies NXP and Infineon at the Dresden site.
TSMC is currently negotiating with politicians for government support. TSMC could apparently invest around ten billion euros in the new plant in Saxony. The Bloomberg news agency first reported on the plans. A final decision for the location has not yet been made, according to government officials.
Politicians have high hopes that TSMC will settle there. The company is one of the world’s largest chip producers and the most important supplier of the US electronics group Apple – but so far without any production in Europe.
