Washington Donald Trump leaves little doubt that he will run again as a candidate in the US presidential election in 2024. “To make our country prosperous, safe and glorious, I will very, very, very likely do it again,” the 76-year-old ex-president said at a campaign event on Thursday. “Get ready. That’s all I’m telling you. Very soon. Be ready.”
The news portal Axios reported on Friday that Trump’s team’s inner circle would be discussing the announcement of his candidacy on November 14 – just under a week after the congressional elections. However, the Republican is not yet certain of the date, which is why it has not yet been determined, according to the report, which referred to three people involved in the talks.
Trump lost the 2020 election after just one term to his Democratic challenger Joe Biden. To this day, however, he keeps repeating the unproven claim that his defeat was only due to electoral fraud.
His influence in the Republican Party is still immense. He has flirted with making another attempt at the White House on numerous occasions in recent months.

Trump could use a possible tailwind from Midterms
Shortly before Trump’s appearance on Thursday, several of the ex-president’s confidants told the Reuters news agency that he might want to use the expected tailwind for the Republicans in the congressional elections to announce a candidacy.

A person familiar with Trump’s plans said the ex-president plans to announce his reelection campaign shortly after next Tuesday’s congressional elections. Trump looked around for potential employees. The person said they were contacted by Trump’s team to explore their interest in working together.
Trump on the 2024 candidacy: “I will very, very, very likely do it again”
With the announcement of a candidacy in the coming weeks, Trump could also slow down potential competitors in his party, said the advisors. Among others, Ron de Santis, Governor of Florida, is considered a potentially successful presidential candidate.
However, they also thought it possible that Trump could delay the decision on an application. “He’s going to want the speculation to go on for months,” said one person with ties to Trump. A spokesman for Trump initially did not comment on this.
According to polls, it is very likely that the Republicans will win the majority in the US House of Representatives on Tuesday. They can also hope for control of the Senate.
These midterm races are particularly exciting
Democrats are currently in power in both chambers. However, they are particularly affected by the high inflation and the low level of support that Biden receives for his policy. Most recently, his popularity ratings were 40 percent. But Trump doesn’t fare much better either. In a survey by Reuters and the opinion research institute Ipsos in October, he came up with 41 percent.
In the upcoming midterm elections, Trump is supporting dozens of candidates financially from his estate in Mar-a-Lago. The Senate races in the states of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Georgia and Arizona are considered particularly exciting – there are no clear favorites there so far. A march through by Trump’s candidates could further consolidate his standing, and the Republicans could then see no alternative.
US President Biden has not yet publicly stated whether he would run again in 2024. Biden wants to “try for a second term”, but wants to decide after the midterms, the president told CNN. “I think I could beat Trump again,” he said. Biden turns 80 on November 20. America, meanwhile, seems weary of a potential men’s duel: According to an AP poll, only 3 in 10 Americans want either Biden or Trump to run for the 2024 presidential office.
