The recall, announced in the US, affected certain Rav4 models produced between 2013 and 2018. According to Toyota, some replacement 12-volt batteries used in SUVs have smaller top dimensions than others. If the battery holding clamp is not tightened properly, it may cause the battery to move.

Failure to keep the battery stationary may allow a terminal to contact the clamp, causing a short circuit. This situation has the potential to create a fire risk in the engine. Movement of the battery may come into contact with the cables and damage other components.
