An investigation was launched into the use of cookies on TikTok’s UK and Ireland web platform recently. After the investigation, it turned out that TikTok did not provide users with a clear enough option to disable the use of cookies. On top of that, the social media company faces a significant penalty.

TikTok UK and Ireland, which failed to provide sufficient information about its use after investigations, were fined 5 million Euros. In the review covering the period between May 2020 and June 2022, it was determined that the purpose of the cookies on the site was not specified enough and sufficient information was not shared with the users.

Apple has removed the iPod app, which has recently gone viral on TikTok, from the App Store. The app was converting iPhone to iPod.

The Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL), which states that the fine is determined by the violations committed and the number of people affected, states that the penalty imposed is based on Article 82 of the Data Protection Law.

Since November 2022, CNIL has fined Apple 8 million euros for App Store ads, 60 million euros to Microsoft for collecting cookies, and Discord 800,000 euros for non-compliance with the specified regulations.
