New developments in Thodex case draw attention

cryptocoin.com As we have reported, Faruk Fatih Özer, the founder of the crypto money exchange Thodex, which was searched by Interpol with a red notice and later caught in Albania and extradited to Turkey, was arrested last month and sent to Maltepe Prison. Özer, who organized Turkey’s largest fraud scheme worth 356 million TL, exercised his right to remain silent during his interrogation at the police station. However, during the prosecution, he stated that he believed he could bring innovations to the cryptocurrency exchanges in Turkey.

During the hearing, Özer referred to the upcoming case and stated that he would answer the remaining questions on 12 June. Özer, who was arrested last month, appeared before the court for a monthly review of his detention. Similar to his statement at the hearing, Özer said, “I don’t have a defense right now. “I will present my defense and statement at the hearing on June 12,” he said. When the president of the court asked if there was a request for release, his response surprised everyone.

Özer stated that he did not request his release by saying “No, there is not”. However, his lawyer formally requested his client’s release, in line with Özer’s statement that he would testify during the trial. The court decided to continue Özer’s detention. In addition, the court sent all the documents related to the case, including the court report and the MASAK report, to the prison where Faruk Fatih Özer was held. It has been reported that Özer’s place of detention has also changed. After his arrest, he was transferred from Maltepe Prison to Tekirdağ F Type Closed High Security Prison, known for its tight security measures.

Özer submitted a petition to the court

Özer also wrote a petition to the court from where he was detained before the hearing. Giving examples from the Supreme Court decisions, Özer emphasized that a trial cannot be made without the presence of the accused in the court, and stated that a defendant who wants to make a defense in court should not be forced to use the Private Communication Method (SEGBİS) for this opportunity to be given and for his defense. In his petition, Özer said, “I request that I be personally brought before the court to give my statement in accordance with the right of defense within the scope of the case I am being tried as a defendant.” Upon this request, the court wrote to the prison and demanded that Faruk Fatih Özer be brought to the courtroom for the hearing.

The hearing of Faruk Fatih Özer, the founder of Thodex cryptocurrency exchange, started when Özer surprised the court by refusing his release request. Ozer, who had avoided capture for years, was extradited from Albania and was arrested in Turkey last month. Interpol had issued a red notice for his arrest. Özer’s trial will continue on 12 June and he promised to answer many unanswered questions about Özer’s case.
