mountain view The world’s largest search engine operator, Google, has expanded its company headquarters to include a campus with 4,000 jobs. It is the first time that the company has designed and built a building complex from scratch.
“We designed these buildings to reflect our way of working twenty, thirty or forty years from now,” said Google’s chief building manager, David Radcliffe. He led the Handelsblatt through the new Bay View campus for the opening.
The actual company headquarters, also known as the Googleplex, was originally the headquarters of the technology company Silicon Graphics. Google first rented the buildings and eventually bought most of the houses 16 years ago.
But it is something completely different to construct a building from the start according to the needs of a company. “This is where we could make our mark,” Radcliffe said. The complex stands on a site belonging to the US space agency Nasa and is close to the Googleplex.
