Nationwide, crisis teams are preparing themselves with emergency plans.

Dusseldorf Whether in Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich or Cologne – representatives from politics, fire brigades, police, rescue services, civil protection, network operators and energy suppliers now meet once a week in most cities in Germany. They procure generators, list critical facilities and prepare contact points for citizens. And they draw up emergency personnel plans for administration, police and emergency services. The crisis teams are preparing for a scenario that is currently affecting many: a possible power failure in winter.

The metropolis of Cologne, for example, should be able to withstand a power outage lasting several days. The North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of the Interior sent a corresponding decree to all cities, municipalities and municipalities in the state at the end of July. The basis for the preparations should be the worst scenario: a power failure lasting more than 72 hours.
