Dusseldorf New theme funds come onto the market almost every week. They are limited to a single area and are therefore more focused than sector or regional funds. The idea is well received: According to a survey by Natixis Portfolio Consulting, the proportion of themed funds in portfolios of private investors rose sharply during the pandemic: in Spain from 0.2 to 7.4 percent, in France from 2.6 to 6.5 percent and in Germany from 3.9 to 4.3 percent.
“The coronavirus pandemic has undoubtedly been a trend accelerator for themed funds in many areas,” said Luke Barrs, Head of Fundamental Equity Client Portfolio Management at Goldman Sachs Asset Management. The crisis has shown how important new technologies are – not only in the digital world, but especially in the healthcare sector. Accordingly, 237 new theme funds were launched worldwide in 2020 – more than ever before.
