Berlin If the liberals have their way, the planned Building Energy Act (GEG) could be dispensed with – but only if the CO2 price in the heating sector were to take full effect instead. In the ongoing debate about the GEG amendment, for example, FDP parliamentary group leader Lukas Köhler recently said that the prospect of rising CO2 prices is the best incentive for people to reduce emissions when heating and driving.

In combination with the climate money “as a real financial relief, we can achieve our climate goals guaranteed, cost-effectively and socially acceptable”. The FDP parliamentary group is therefore calling for “ending small-scale climate protection policy and instead continuing the success story of emissions trading”.
