With its gullwing doors, the DeLorean Alpha5 is reminiscent of its world-famous role model.
Houston The revived car brand DeLorean has unveiled its first new model, the Alpha5. The comeback vehicle has little in common with the DMC-12 from the 1980s, which achieved cult status thanks to the Hollywood film “Back to the Future”. The Alpha5, announced for 2024 and limited to 88 copies, is intended to be the start of an entire DeLorean model family.
Like the DMC-12, the design of the Alpha5 was penned by Italdesign. As a reference to the original DeLorean, the Italians opted for gullwing doors and a hatchback with a louvered rear window cover.
Otherwise, the five-meter-long four-seater avoids retro elements. Rather, the model is characterized by an elegant-looking Gran Turismo dress that conveys a futuristic impression thanks to the elaborately staged LED lights.
The Alpha5 drives purely electrically. DeLorean has not yet given any precise information about the drive. But the streamlined Stromer should need around three seconds for the sprint to 100 km/h and drive at a maximum speed of 250 km/h. Thanks to a battery with more than 100 kWh, a range of over 480 kilometers should be possible according to practical EPA measurements.

By doing without B-pillars, the Alpha5 allows generous access to the four individual seats. The Stromer offers a cockpit with almost no buttons or switches. Behind the steering wheel there is a large display for information relevant to driving, and in the center console there is a large-format touchscreen as an interface for the infotainment system and many vehicle functions.
Prices for the Alpha5 are not yet mentioned. Presumably, these will move beyond 150,000 euros. It is a flagship model intended to give prestige to the car brand. The Alpha5 is to be followed, among other things, by a sports coupé with a V8 engine, a battery-electric sedan and an SUV with a fuel cell drive.
The outer skin of the Alpha5 should be comparatively streamlined with a drag coefficient of 0.23.

A total of four seats are available inside the Alpha5.
The Alpha5 is almost exactly 5 meters long – and thus significantly longer than the historical model.
