This is how the BDI wants to save the new building target

Frankfurt The goal is clearly formulated: the new federal government wants to create around 400,000 new apartments in Germany every year, according to the target for Federal Building Minister Klara Geywitz. But the doubts in the industry are great as to whether this can be realized. Sharply rising construction interest rates, uncertainty due to the Ukraine war, expensive building materials and supply bottlenecks are causing problems for the construction industry.

Last year, just over 293,000 apartments were completed – and the federal government’s new building target was missed by miles. The forecasts for 2022 are no more optimistic. So what to do?

With the Federation of German Industries (BDI), one of the most influential business voices has now thought about this and formulated concrete demands. In a new position paper on the 2022-2025 construction offensive, which is available to the Handelsblatt in advance, the lobby association names specific measures to save the government’s new construction target.
