This is how Siemens wants to build the future in Berlin

Berlin Siemensstadt is buzzing and that’s not because of the transformers on the factory premises, but because of the bees. They are on business in the Spandau airspace and are exploring the summer wilderness. 80,000 honey bees, their nickname: “organic drones”. Their home base is on the roof of the Dynamowerk, a mighty building on Nonnendammallee in Berlin-Siemensstadt.

From up there, hobby beekeeper and Siemens employee Ingo Buschmann sends the pollinators into the new neighborhood, which will be radically transformed over the next few years. “Honey is only produced by the bees on the side,” says the Siemens headquarters on Rohrdamm. Their actual task is “the collection of information on plant biodiversity in Siemensstadt”.
