This is how much CO2 Germany has to save in transport

Berlin It is a number that at first glance seems abstract: 20 million tons of carbon dioxide. The next Federal Minister of Transport will have to save precisely this amount quickly in order to meet the climate targets. At the latest at the petrol pump, however, drivers should feel the all too real effects.

The price of petrol will have to rise by around 70 cents in 2022 alone in order to quickly achieve that climate target in the transport sector via a de facto driving ban via wallet. For a family with two cars in the country, the expenses for mobility increase by 1,800 euros per year, as the German Institute for Economic Research has calculated.

If the next federal government adheres to existing laws, it will have little choice. No wonder that this number will dominate the coalition negotiations, but no new government wants to conjure up a yellow vests movement like in France or promote the AfD.
