Dusseldorf Sharply rising costs for gas and electricity are forcing Germany’s companies to save energy. For example, Volkswagen lowers the temperature in the production halls of its core VW brand to 17 degrees, in return for which the employees receive warm clothing.

The intralogistics specialist Jungheinrich also distributes fleece jackets and even wants to close one of its two office buildings in winter to save energy. And the building materials group Heidelberg Materials shifts parts of its production to the weekend because electricity prices tend to be lower then.

The examples show: In view of the energy crisis, German companies are becoming increasingly creative in order to reduce their expenditure on electricity and gas. Eon, VW and Merck have even set up a task force, and SAP is revising its energy emergency plans.
